The Abject Valentines are a subset of the SAMPLED LIVES series. These found postcards with notes exposed to the public on the back reveal the exchanges between individuals and the minutia of their lives. There’s an abundance of talk about the weather, plus snippets of personal details tucked into the small spaces on the cards and the trivial formalities of the format.
I catalog excerpts as non-sequitur statements and embroider them onto the postcards as samplers, recontextualizing thoughts and situations while commenting on the complexity of relationship with a tongue in cheek sense of humor.
Postcards measure 4x6 inches inside a 7x9 inch frame.
